In an interview with IRNA News Agency on Saturday, Zambry Abdul Kadir said that "NAM is the second largest movement after the United Nations organization, therefore NAM has a very important role to bring all countries together and to mediate crisis and to find solutions for any international issues".
He added that “Malaysia and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) have been emphasizing the need for NAM to be stronger and united because the world around us and political developments have been our quite concerns, therefore all NAM members can stand united to face any challenges. NAM would be able to be the organization that manages to solve many issues and problems among the members’ countries.”
Referring to the role of NAM in creating unity for countering superpower hegemonies like the United States, he noted that “it can be impactful if all NAM members stand united and do not neglect any members".
He underlined that “NAM should be considered more than before and what we need to do is to bring everyone together. Otherwise, NAM becomes like the other events without any actions".
The NAM foreign ministerial meeting was held in Baku on July 5-6, 2023 and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian traveled to Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the foreign ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
The NAM is an international organization that was formed during the Cold War as a response to the major powers, especially in the newly independent and developing countries.
With its 120 member states, the NAM is the largest grouping of countries outside of the UN, making it an important role player in global and multilateral affairs.
