Some armed individuals attacked the police station on Saturday morning, Mehdi Shamsabadi said adding that the conflict still continues.
According to a report released earlier this morning by informed sources, the armed attackers were carrying explosive suicide belts and two of them detonated their belts.
However, a security official has refused that it has been a suicide attack, saying that the armed men used grenades to assault the station’s watch tower.
Ali Reza Marhamati, the province’s deputy governor in security affairs, said that the attack happened at 07:15 hours local time (03:45 GMT).
The security forces managed to take control of the situation by their timely presence at the scene of the attack, the official underlined.
He went on to say that the attackers were neutralized while they were to enter the police station.
In a related development, the provincial public relations office of Sistan and Baluchestan affiliated with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced in a statement that all four members of the terrorist team were killed in the clash with the security forces who prevented the terrorists from entering the police station in Zahedan.
