** IRAN DAILY

-- Iran receives 5% more FDI in 2022: UNCTAD

The foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow to Iran increased by five percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) said in its latest investment report.
The report put the country’s FDI inflow at $1.5 billion in 2022, while the figure stood at $1.425 billion in 2021.

--  Tehran ready to develop socio-economic cooperation with Beirut: Minister

Iran’s Minister of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare Solat Mortazavi announced his ministry’s readiness to transfer know-how in economic, social, and educational arenas to the Lebanese Ministry of Labor.
Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding with Lebanese Minister of Labor Mustafa Bayram on Sunday, Mortazavi said the two sides prepared a cooperation agreement that will be inked to pave the way for extensive cooperation. “So, we are ready to share our experiences with Lebanon,” he said.

--  EU to breach JCPOA with refusal to lift sanctions

European powers are expected to announce plans to breach the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), for the first time when they confirm they are not going to lift sanctions on Tehran’s use of missiles this October as required in the agreement.
Donald Trump took the US out of the nuclear deal in 2018, but Germany, France, and the UK remained inside the deal, even though Iran eventually responded to the US walkout by breaching the agreed limits on the quality and quantity of enriched uranium.

-- IME Weekly Trade Tops $470mn

The iran Merecantile Exchange (IME) has reported that over 2,045,136 tonnes of commodities with a total trading value of more than $470 million were traded on its physical market in the last week.
The IME’s report added that on its metals and minerals trading floor, over 1,627,304 tonnes of commodities, including 1,183,066 tonnes of cement, 257,068 tonnes of steel, 176,500 tonnes of sponge iron, 40,190 tonnes of zinc, 6,440 tonnes of aluminum, 6,045 tonnes of copper and 200 tonnes of molybdenum concentrate with total value of $303 million were traded in the last week.

-- Prominent Figures Denounce Burning of Qur’an

Prominent Iranian poet, writer and literary critic and Muhammad-Reza Shafie’i ‎Kadkani has censured the sacrilegious burning of the Holy Qur’an in Sweden.
“The last leaf of rain’s travelogue reads: The earth is tarnished,” Kadkani who is also a professor of literature at the University of Tehran wrote on his Instagram page.

-- Damavand-2 Destroyer to Join Naval Fleet Soon

Iran’s homegrown Damavand-2 destroyer will join the Navy’s northern fleet in the Caspian Sea in the near future. The Mowj-class frigate is currently passing its operational tests in the northern fleet and that it will soon start its mission based on defined instructions.
The Damavand-2, which is an advanced type of Jamaran destroyer, is equipped with new radar and missile systems, as well as propulsion and weaponry systems thanks to cooperation between the Defense Ministry, the Iranian Navy, and the knowledge-based companies.

-- Admiral says missiles are needed to guarantee living 

Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, has said that Persian Gulf oil belongs to Iran and its neighbors. He underlined the need for Iran to have military equipment to ensure its livelihood. “Our oil and gas are extracted from the sea, and if there are no ships and missiles, we will not have a livelihood.”

General Tangsiri added “we have many important islands that can maintain the security of the sea area like an aircraft carrier” because the islands have the ability of providing a takeoff area.

--  Metal sculptures showcase peace at Tehran exhibition

 An exhibition underway at the Negarestan Garden Museum of the University of Tehran showcases a collection of metal sculptures on the theme of peace.

In a statement for his exhibition, the 59-year-old sculptor Mohammad Mohammadzadeh Titkanlu said that the culture of scientific imagination of peace is the central theme of the exhibit entitled “Art Metallurgy”.

--  UNDP-Japan project saves 27% of water for irrigation

- Conservation of Iranian Wetlands Project (CIWP), a joint initiative between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Government of Japan, has so far led to 27 percent water saving for irrigation in the country.

The three-year (2021-2024) cooperation between the DoE, Japan, and UNDP Iran has been initiated to up-scale successful practices to additional pilots in the Urmia Lake basin and two new replication sites including Shadegan and Bakhtegan Wetlands.
