Insulting divine religions contrary to int’l laws: Iran's Christrian MP

Urmia, IRNA - The representative of the Assyrian-Chaldean Christians of Iran in parliament has underscored that insulting divine religions is in contradiction to international covenants and regulations as well as the rights of all human beings in particular Muslim brothers.

Charlie Anouieh Tekieh issued a statement on Sunday, noting that as a representative of the noble Assyrian-Chaldean Christian community, he condemns the ugly and divisive act of Quran burning, which is an aggressive, criminal, and provocative act that hurts the feelings of over two billion Muslim brothers and sisters around the world.

We firmly believe that contrary to the evil intentions of dark-minded individuals, all these provocations ultimately lead to the joy of friendship and compassion in the realm of believers and intellectuals, he argued.

We also stress the necessity of respecting religious symbols and trying to promote a culture of peace, absolute acceptance of others, and increasing awareness of common values, the Iranian lawmaker noted.

Last Wednesday, in a court-authorized act of sacrilege against the Muslim holy book, two men stood outside Stockholm Central Mosque and burned a copy of the holy Quran.

The sacrilege of holy book of Islam was condemned by followers of different religions especially the Muslim communities around the globe.
