Iran’s health system recruits 8,000 new midwives

Tehran, IRNA – An Iranian deputy minister of health says the country's health system has recruited some 8,000 new midwives in line with the country's plans to boost birth rate.

Hossein Farshidi, who serves as deputy health minister for hygiene, made the remarks in a gathering in Tehran on Saturday.

He said recruiting new midwives was in line with Iranian government's policies to provide appropriate support for families and to pursue programs meant to boost birth rate in the country.

The official said Iran's current year's budget law contains good resources for advancement of the birth rate policy.

Iran has introduced some extensive measures in recent years to help boost birth rate in the country, including offering financial incentives to couples and providing free and subsidized maternity services to the population.
