At a meeting on Wednesday, Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian and head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami were also tasked with projecting the resources necessary to implement the plan in the next year’s budget.
“The use of fossil fuels and conventional energy sources is losing its position day by day, while the significance of nuclear energy is increasing,” Mokhber said at the meeting while calling to address the development requirements of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
The senior officials agreed that efforts should be made to expedite the construction of two new units at the power plant, each with a capacity of 1.08 GW of nuclear electricity.
Eslami, meanwhile, presented a report on the ongoing programs at the AEOI, and said work has already begun to identify new sites with “technical and general” capacities required for the construction of new nuclear power plants across the country.
