Iran, UN insist further talks needed to resolve Syria crisis

Tehran, IRNA – Senior aide to the Iranian foreign minister Ali Asghar Khaji and United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen have insisted in a meeting that further talks are needed to fully resolve the Syrian crisis.

Khaji and Pedersen met on the sidelines of a meeting on Syria in the Kazakh city of Astana on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two diplomats discussed the latest developments around the Syrian issue, including efforts to normalize ties between the Arab country and other states in the region and around the world.

They also highlighted the need for more international supports for humanitarian issues in Syria, including the issue of refugees.

Khaji also met with ambassadors of Iraq and Lebanon as observer countries in the Astana talks where Iran, Russia, Turkiye and Syria seek a permanent settlement to more than a decade of conflict in the Arab country.
