In a message posted on Twitter on Monday, Farazmand said he had held a “farewell meeting” with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yasin Ekrem Serim earlier in the day.
“I expressed my gratitude for the constructive support and cooperation of the officials at the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in facilitating my mission and promoting friendly relations between the two governments and peoples,” the ambassador wrote.
Some reporters have suggested that Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, the current director of Mediterranean and Eastern Europe department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, is likely to replace Farazmand as Iran’s envoy to Ankara.
Habibollahzadeh has previously served at Iranian embassies in the United Kingdom and Norway.
