Rashid made the remarks in a meeting with Head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi in Baghdad on Monday.
The Iraqi president said the development of Iraqi provinces and cities will be facilitated strengthening security and stability in the country.
Welcoming the Iranian delegation’s trip to the energy-rich city of Basra in Iraq's south, Rashid highlighted the deep-rooted social, geographical, historical, and religious ties, as well as economic interests that link the two neighboring nations.
Kharrazi, for his part, appreciated the late Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and incumbent Iraqi President Rashid’s efforts for expanding ties between Iran and Iraq.
Emphasizing the efforts made by the two countries to develop relations, he described Iraq as the gateway to communication with Arab countries and thanked Baghdad's efforts in bringing the views of Iran and Saudi Arabia closer together.
Earlier today, Kharrazi also met and held talks with the Leader of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq, Seyyed Ammar al-Hakim in Baghdad, Iraq.
