Turkey hosts meeting of Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad cargo train working group

Islamabad, IRNA – The 13th meeting of the working group on the Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad cargo train has been held in Istanbul, according to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The meeting, held with cooperation between the Turkish government and ECO last week, gathered delegations from Iran, Pakistan and Turkey as well as representatives from ECO Trade and Development Bank and the private sector.

It focused on developing infrastructures and transport capacities and investigating the financial contribution of the private sector and the Islamic Development Bank in the rail corridor.

During the meeting, the attendees looked at various aspects, issues and requirements of the ITI train, including building containers and digitalizing the procedures between countries along the corridor, and reviewed the overall operational status of the ECO train, according to ECO’s public relations.

The ITI railway is 6,500 km long, with 2,570 km being on Iranian soil, 2,000 km in Turkey, and about 1,900 km in Pakistan.
