Raisi pays respect to Nicaragua’s revolution leaders

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has laid wreaths of flowers at an iconic square in Nicaragua’s capital Managua in a show of respect for the country’s revolution leaders.

Raisi visited Managua’s Plaza de la Revolución (Revolution Square) on Wednesday morning local time. The iconic place is home to many historical monuments, with some of them dedicated to national heroes.

At the Revolution Square, the Iranian president laid wreaths of flowers to pay respect to Nicaragua’s revolution (1978-79) leaders including Carlos Fonseca Amador, the founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front that led the ouster of the country’s dictatorship.

Nicaragua is the second leg of President Raisi’s tour of Latin America that first took him to Venezuela.

The president began his five-day tour on Monday, with Cuba being the final destination.

The visits are aimed at expanding the Islamic Republic’s relations with the three Latin American countries.

The visits are also in line with the Raisi administration’s policy to develop ties with independent and freedom-seeking nations across the world.
