In the meeting held on Monday local time in Venezuela, Maduro recounted an incident from a few years ago when Venezuela's infrastructure suffered a vicious cyber attack by the United States, and General Soleimani came to their aid by deploying a team to identify and counter the attack.
“I have great respect for him,” Maduro told the Iranian delegation led by President Ebrahim Raisi. “General Soleimani was a great man and many are not aware of his contributions,” he added.
The Venezuelan president also said that a bust sculpture of General Soleimani will soon be installed at the mausoleum of Venezuela’s independence hero Simon Bolivar in Caracas.
General Soleimani was the chief commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Quds Force. He was assassinated in a US drone strike outside the Baghdad Airport on January 3, 2020 along with his Iranian and Iraqi companions.
