The regime’s plan includes at least 4,000 settler units in “several existing West Bank settlements”, US-based news website Axios reported on Monday, citing three Israeli and American officials.
According to the report, the Israeli regime is seeking to announce the plans later this month and has already informed the administration of President Joe Biden about them.
Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land are illegal under international law.
The UN Security Council, in its resolution 2334 adopted in late 2016, reaffirmed that the regime’s establishment of settlements in Palestinian territory “had no legal validity, constituting a flagrant violation under international law.”
Moreover, Palestinians see the settlements as a main impediment in resolving the decades-long conflict with the Zionist regime.
Despite the international outcry, the regime has been pressing ahead with its expansionist policy to build more settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories including Al-Quds.
