US, Israel frightened by Iranian ‘lithium’ weapon: Analyst

Tehran, IRNA – The Zionist officials are once again frightened of the Iranian power, but this time their fear is not because of Iran’s ballistic missiles; they are rather frightened of Iran’s “lithium power”, according to a prominent political analyst.

Abdel Bari Atwan, a prominent expert on Arab and Middle East affairs, wrote in an article for online newspaper Rai al-Youm on Sunday that he is talking about something more than the Iranian hypersonic missiles or the country's nuclear technology.

He said that discovering “a strategic weapon called lithium” may turn Iran into the number one economic and financial power in the Middle East and could boost relations between the country and superpowers like Russia and China and even with the United States.

If the authorities of the European Union or other world regions decide to stop producing fossil-fueled cars by 2035 and replace them with electric ones, they have no other choice but to gain Iran’s consent to be able to have access a mineral that is widely used in these industries, Atwan said.

Referring to the rising prices of lithium in the global markets, he said that it is not unlikely that Iran will form an organization of lithium producing countries in the future to control the production and price of this product.

Iran’s Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Hadi Ahmadi said early in March that the country will be able to extract lithium from two newly-discovered lithium deposits in the western province of Hamedan in the next two years.
