In reaction to the statement issued at the 156th meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the (Persian) Gulf Cooperation Council, Kanaani reiterated on Monday that the regional strategy and fundamental policy of the Islamic Republic is to boost and deepen ties with the countries of the (P)GCC and to increase cooperation with neighbors.
He expressed hope that regional states would set up new frameworks for cooperation in the region as he urged the countries in the Persian Gulf to adopt prudent views and to refrain from repetitive statements.
The official described regional developments in recent months as promising and said that they fall within the interests of all the countries in the region.
Regional states have a collective responsibility to promote the interests of the region, he said, adding that Iran has always supported dialogue and cooperation with Persian Gulf countries.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman termed recent claims about Iran's nuclear program as baseless.
In cooperation with relevant countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Islamic Republic of Iran continues its peaceful nuclear program based on its rights and in accordance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreements (CSA), Kanaani underlined.
He voiced Iran’s serious determination to turn the Persian Gulf into a stable, safe and prosperous region through cooperation with neighboring and brotherly counties of the (P)GCC bloc.
