The commemoration ceremony was attended by scores of Imam Khomeini's followers from Russia and other countries at the Islamic Center of Moscow late on Saturday.
Highlighting the unique features of Imam Khomeini, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said that the glorious Islamic Revolution led by Imam Khomeini not only saved the Iranians from the oppression and tyranny of the US and the West, but it also became a role model for the nations of the region and all freedom-seekers around the world.
Referring to Imam Khomeini's historic letter addressed to Mikhail Gorbachev, the last secretary general of the Communist Party before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Jalali emphasized the historic message showed Imam's proper understanding of regional and global developments.
Imam Khomeini, who steered the popular uprising in Iran which culminated in the fall of the former regime of the Shah, passed away on June 3, 1989, at the age of 89.
He has become known as one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century who inspired many other revolutions all across the world.
