Iran says economic indicators rose despite US sanctions

Tehran, IRNA – The governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has said that the country’s economic indicators have risen during the past two years despite illegal sanctions imposed by the United States.

Mohammad Reza Farzin made the remarks in a meeting held in Washington on Thursday with Jihad Azour, who serves as the Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In the meeting, Farzin called on the IMF to support  efforts by the Islamic Republic to boost its trade with other countries.

Farzin left Tehran for Washington, the United States, on May 30 to meet with IMF officials.

In a report released last month, the IMF said that there has been a whopping $141 billion surge in Iran’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022, making the country the world’s 22nd largest economy.

According to the report, Iran’s GDP reached $1.596 trillion in 2022 based on the Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) index.
