Iran highlights ‘unwelcoming’ membership of Zionist regime in CICA

Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has highlighted the unwelcoming membership and unconstructive role of the Zionist regime in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

Amirabdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay in Tehran on Tuesday.

He hailed the constructive steps taken by Kazakhstan during its rotating presidency of the Conference.

The top diplomat stated that Iran continues to support the possible initiatives that help shake up the place and efficiency of CICA.

The official also expressed Iran’s support for elevating the position of CICA to make it an international organization.

The significance of the transition era in the regional and International political arena should be taken into account in setting out the upcoming work schedule of the Conference, he underscored.

Kairat Sarybay, for his part, thanked the active participation and constructive cooperation of Iran in advancing CICA's objectives.

Meanwhile, he elaborated on the ongoing and upcoming programs of the bloc in his meeting with Amirabdollahian.

CICA is a multi-national forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security, and stability in Asia.

Presently, CICA has 28 member states accounting for nearly 90 percent of the territory and population of Asia. Nine countries and five multi-national organizations, including the United Nations, have observer status in the bloc.
