South Africa's International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor will host the Meeting of BRICS Foreign Ministers in Cape Town on 1 June 2023, according to reports published on Tuesday.
The BRICS consists of emerging economic powers who account for around half of the world's population. The five countries are also responsible for a fourth of the global investment while their territories account for 30% of the area of the world.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari said on Monday that some 19 countries have so far applied for BRICS membership, adding that Iran was one of the first countries that submitted its request to join the bloc.
Safari said that the BRICS member states have not declared their criteria for accepting new members to the group, adding, however, that “with the criteria and abilities we have, we can easily adapt ourselves to their standards.”
