-- New airport launched in Iran’s remote east
A new airport was launched in Iran’s remote east amid efforts to expand transportation infrastructure in the region.
A Thursday flight carrying Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and other senior government officials was the first to land in the airport in Gonabad, a city of nearly 50,000 people located some 230 kilometers from the Iranian border with Afghanistan.
-- Iran pushing to attract foreign investment in petchem sector
A senior official at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) of Iran said the company has braced itself to attract foreign investment within the framework of joint venture to help the country’s petrochemical industry boom in the global markets.
CEO of NPC Morteza Shahmirzaei made the comments on Friday in a meeting with the ambassadors and consuls of Iran in foreign countries, held to review strategies for the development of international cooperation in the petrochemical industry.
-- Iran’s wheat output to rise 10% to 14.5m tons: USDA
Figures by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) show that wheat output in Iran is going to increase by 10% this year.
USDA figures cited in a report by Iran’s official IRNA showed that total wheat output in Iran could reach 14.5 million tons this year, up from 13.2 million tons reported in 2022.

Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Muhammad Reza Farzin has said that more than 8 Iranian banks operate abroad and 49 branches of Iranian banks are operating in different nations including England, Germany, Russia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates, and France.
Referring to the financial and commercial characteristics of Iran’s economy, Farzin said, “Although Iran’s economy has been facing sanctions from Western countries for decades, these sanctions have intensified in the last decade and have targeted the monetary and financial sectors of the country.”
-- Investment in Solar Power to Outstrip Oil for First Time, Says IEA
Washington (CNN) - Investment in clean energy will extend its lead over spending on fossil fuels in 2023, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said Thursday, with solar projects expected to outpace outlays on oil production for the first time.
Annual investment in renewable energy was up by nearly a quarter since 2021, compared with a 15% rise for fossil fuels, the Paris-based energy watchdog said in its World Energy Investment report.
-- FTA to Triple Iran-EAEU Trade Exchange
Iran’s envoy at EAEU Omid Golzari has said that the launch of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is expected to triple the volume of bilateral trade exchanges.
Speaking to IRNA on the sidelines of the 2nd Eurasian Economic Forum in Moscow, Iran’s envoy at EAEU Golzari put the value of trade exchanges between Iran and the EAEU at $5.5 billion.

-- Iran unveils unique 2000-km, precision-guided missile
Iran's Defense Ministry unveiled a 2000-km precision-guided ballistic missile on Thursday morning. The projectile, powered by liquid fuel, is able to carry a 1,500 kg warhead.
The missile, called Kheibar, was unveiled on the 41st anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr. It has an extended range, advanced guidance and control system.
-- Egypt, Iran to exchange ambassadors this year: report
Egypt and Iran are expected to exchange ambassadors within months, part of a process mediated by Oman to normalize relations between the two regional powers, Egyptian officials told The National. Two officials said that a meeting has been agreed in principle between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt and his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi.
They said the meeting is likely to take place by the end of the year. The news comes days after Oman's ruler, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, paid a two-day visit to Egypt where he and El Sisi discussed Cairo's relations with Tehran, according to the officials.
-- Iranian legendary wrestler Habibi celebrates 92nd birthday
Iranian wrestling legendary Emamali Habibi, known as the Tiger of Mazandaran, celebrated his 92nd birthday on Friday. Habibi is the oldest living Iranian Olympic champion.
He represented Iran at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, where he won a surprise gold medal in the 67kg. Habibi also claimed two gold medals in 1959, 1961 and 1962 World Wrestling Championships. He took a gold medal in the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo as well. Habibi is inducted into the International Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007.
