Iran parliament delegation at scene to investigate martyrdom of border guards

Zahedan, IRNA – A delegation of Iranian lawmakers arrived in the southeastern city of Saravan on Thursday to probe into the recent killing of five Iranian border guards at the joint border with Pakistan.

The delegation, consisting of members of Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, visited a border post where the Iranian border guards were martyred in a cross-border terrorist attack on Saturday.

Shahriar Heidari, a member of the Majlis Committee, said earlier on Monday that the Saravan visit by the Iranian lawmakers aims to make necessary decisions about the case.

Heidari said the Islamic Republic has repeatedly told Islamabad that Iran is ready to ensure security even across the joint border if Pakistan is unable to prevent such terrorist measures.

The legislator, however, reiterated Iran’s respect for Pakistan's territorial integrity, adding that both sides are two neighboring countries whose governments believe in the establishment of security along their borders.

Also speaking to reporters during the visit to Saravan on Thursday, Heidari said that the Parliament is working on the approval of a bill for further strengthening the country’s border guard police.
