Raisi's Indonesia visit expected to facilitate financial exchange

Tehran, IRNA – The visit of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Jakarta, Indonesia, which took place early on Tuesday is expected to facilitate financial exchange between the two countries.

Tehran and Jakarta are seriously determined to develop relations, and the two have already ended the sixth round of bilateral talks on a tariff trade agreement.

Experts believe that today's visit of the Iranian president to Indonesia is expected to lead to the facilitation of financial exchange, reduction of tariffs, and boost of trade ties.

In recent decades, Tehran and Jakarta have experienced friendly relations as the two countries are Muslims. The majority of the population in Iran are Shia Muslims, while about 90% of the Indonesian population are Sunnis and the Southeast Asian country owns the largest Sunni population in the World of Islam. So, certain questions including unity among the Islamic countries, expansion of the real image of Islam worldwide, fight against extremism and Islamophobia, and support for the Muslims’ interests are the issues to which the two Muslim countries have taken the same approach.

By signing a preferential trade agreement, new export opportunities will be created for Iran and Indonesia.

The Iranian president has arrived in the Indonesian capital for a state visit to the Southeast Asian country.

Raisi’s two-day travel to Indonesia began on Tuesday on an invitation by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. It is the first presidential visit between the two countries in 17 years.
