Ayatollah Khamenei will attend the ceremony set to be held on June 4 at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, south of the capital Tehran.
The announcement was made on Monday by Mohsen Mahmoudi, head of the coordination council at Tehran Province’s Islamic Ideology Dissemination Department.
According to Mahmoudi, similar ceremonies over the past three years were limited in the size because of health protocols aimed at containing the Covid epidemic in Iran.
This year however will see people from across the country taking part in the commemoration ceremony in their millions, as the Covid restrictions are no longer in place, he added.
Imam Khomeini was the founder of the Islamic Republic, who led the Iranians’ revolution against the Western-backed Shah regime that was topped in February 1979.
Imam Khomeini passed away at the age of 87.
