Sanctions create opportunity for Iran, Russia to bolster ties: Businessman

Tehran, IRNA – Oduvanchik LTD export manager Bogdan Dostovalov has said that foreign sanctions create opportunities for countries like Iran and Russia to expand their bilateral relations.

In an interview with IRNA English on the sidelines of the 27th edition of the Iran Oil Show in Tehran on Wednesday, Dostovalov said sanctions on Iran and Russia caused the two countries to cooperate more on economic and trade projects.

“Sanctions made new trade routes and opportunities between Iran and Russia, so in a couple of years it has a positive impact on the Russian people, and Russia tries to turn on to the east and we will see a lot of trade in the next five years,” he said.

Calling for enhanced ties between Iranian and Russian companies, the businessman highlighted the need for signing agreements between firms in the two countries which he said could be expedited by dispatching business delegations to Iran and Russia.

Pointing to the various fields of cooperation existing between Iran, Russia, and China, he said petrochemistry is the second largest area for cooperation between the three countries after military cooperation projects.

Iran and Russia have large oil fields and refineries, he said, adding that China has a lot of infrastructure that can be used for extraction and refining purposes in the two countries.

Iran, Russia, and China can be so useful to each other, but they need to find a way on how to make it easier for banks and governments to do business, said Dostovalov.

Russian companies have planned lot of meetings with Iranian companies during the Oil Show 2023 in Tehran, he said.
