“Congratulations to the great nation of Iran; the 86th flotilla of the Iranian Navy, featuring Iranian-built destroyer Dena and the Makran port ship, traveled around the world for the first time in the history of the country,” Kanaani said on his Twitter on Wednesday.
He said the mission scored “another honor” for the Islamic Republic on the international stage.
The 86th flotilla is comprised of Dena, a warship equipped with anti-ship cruise missiles, torpedoes, and naval cannons, and Makran, a floating military base that can carry five helicopters and is employed for providing logistical support for combat warships.
It had set sail from Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas on September 20 last year for a global voyage that took it to the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
The mission was aimed at expanding Iran’s naval presence in international waters.
