Ferdowsi taught Iranians love of country: Iran FM

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has honored the prominent Iranian 10th century poet Abulqasem Ferdowsi, saying he fostered values such as love of country and its independence through his works.

“Ferdowsi taught us that love for values and love for the homeland and preserving its independence precedes everything else,” Amirabdollahian wrote in a message on Tuesday.

Iran commemorates its great poet on National Ferdowsi Day on May 15 each year.

Ferdowsi was born in 940 CE in a small village in today's Khorasan Razavi province, northeastern Iran. He is best known for his Shahnameh (Book of the Kings), the world’s longest epic poem created by a single poet.

On Monday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also honored the life and work of Ferdowsi, describing Shahnameh as a tribute to the nation’s culture, language, and religion.
