“Ferdowsi taught us that love for values and love for the homeland and preserving its independence precedes everything else,” Amirabdollahian wrote in a message on Tuesday.
Iran commemorates its great poet on National Ferdowsi Day on May 15 each year.
Ferdowsi was born in 940 CE in a small village in today's Khorasan Razavi province, northeastern Iran. He is best known for his Shahnameh (Book of the Kings), the world’s longest epic poem created by a single poet.
On Monday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi also honored the life and work of Ferdowsi, describing Shahnameh as a tribute to the nation’s culture, language, and religion.
