‘Daesh would have captured Beirut if it was not for Iran’

Tehran, IRNA – A Lebanese University professor says if it was not for Iran’s role in the fight against terrorism, the Daesh terrorist group would have captured Beirut by now.

Habib Fayyaz made the remarks during a conference on West Asia developments in Beirut on Monday, as he described the role and position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in regional developments.

Iran, through its military advisory role led by the country’s chief anti-terror commander the late Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, played an indispensable role in helping Baghdad and Damascus defeat the Daesh terrorist group.

For its part, the United States assassinated General Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), in a drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Fayyaz maintained that the West’s problem with Iran is that the country wants to have its own model of modernism, which is different from what exists in the West.

According to Fayyaz, the US has attacked many countries in West Asia and North Africa but has not dared to attack Iran.

If the US was able to attack Iran, it would have done so, he said, adding that Washington is not capable of attacking Iran because the Islamic Republic is strong.
