Mohammad Hassan Taghizadeh told IRNA on Sunday that a large number of refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and African countries who live in Iran have been participating in professional and amateur sport events inside and outside the country.
Like many countries, there is no coherent body in Iran to organize the sports affairs of the refugees, Taghizadeh said, adding that the issue of refugees and their involvement in professional sports is one of the issues the international sports bodies seek to resolve for good.
The official said that female athletes normally seek asylum in the Islamic Republic of Iran because they could face restrictions in many other countries.
