Iran’s vehicle ownership to hit 40 million by March: Police chief

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Traffic Police Chief Brigadier Kamal Hadianfar has announced that vehicle ownership in the country will reach 40 million by the end of the Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2024).

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Sunday, the police chief said that on average, there would be one vehicle per every two Iranians this calendar year.

He further noted that the number of people with driving licenses in Iran had increased to nearly 52 million, more than 80% of which are car driving licenses.

An average of two to three people were killed in car accidents in Iran every single hour last calendar year, said the police chief, adding the country plans to stop manufacturing of low-quality car models including Pride and Peugeot 405 to help reduce the number of road accident fatalities.
