'Pakistani businesses keen on expanding trade with Iran'

Tehran, IRNA – Pakistani businesses are really interested in expanding trade ties with Iran despite problems caused by foreign sanctions, says a former president of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra made the comments in an exclusive interview with IRNA on the sidelines of the 5th Export Potential Exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRNA EXPO 2023) on Wednesday.

Referring to potentials of Iran and Pakistan to broaden their trade ties, Vohra said that the two neighbors have great opportunity to strengthen economic cooperation.

Because of the current sanctions imposed on Iran, "we have payment problems, I mean LC (letter of credit) problems", he said, adding that Tehran and Islamabad should negotiate to find ways to overcome payment problems.

"We can think of de-dollarization in trade ties between the two countries," said the businessman.

Referring to Tehran-Islamabad trade potentials, Ahmed Vohra said that the value and volume of bilateral trade can improve by increased activity in many fields, including the supply of petrochemicals and steel products from Iran to Pakistan.

Vohra added that governments of Iran and Pakistan have a responsibility to remove trade barriers between the two countries.

He said he was on a first visit to Tehran as he admired the Iranian capital city, its food and the way its people treat foreigners.

The 5th Export Potential Exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRNA EXPO 2023) started work in Tehran on Sunday May 7 and ended on May 10.
