-- Iran, Iraq sign petroleum deal that puts gas first
Iran and Iraq signed a major petroleum cooperation agreement amid expanding ties between the two energy-rich neighbors.
Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani watched on as Iranian and Iraqi oil ministers signed a deal in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Thursday to facilitate bilateral cooperation on petroleum industry projects.
Iranian Oil Ministry’s news service Shana said that a joint working group will pursue the implementation of the agreement during regular meetings in the future.
-- Iran retakes oil tanker after five years
An Iranian oil tanker, which was seized by a foreign company five years ago, has been returned to the country in an operation by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
An Iranian judicial official ordered the return of the oil tanker, and the IRGC along with the Ministry of Intelligence carried out an operation to implement the judicial order, said Mojtaba Qahremani, an official of the judiciary of Hormuzgan Province.

Iran is spending more on a flagship project to provide optic fiber broadband to some 20 million customers across the country.
Iran’s Telecoms Minister Issa Zarepour said on Thursday that the government had earmarked some 10 trillion rials ($20 million) in new funding for the expansion of the optic fiber network in Iran.

The Iranian Economy Minister Ehsan Khandouzi has expressed the country’s readiness to share its technical know-how and expertise with the Islamic countries in the fields of bio- and nanotechnologies, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals and oil industry. Khandouzi has traveled to Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah to take part in an annual summit of the Islamic Development Bank.
In remarks on the sidelines of the event, he expressed Iran’s readiness to share its salient achievements in the fields of bio- and nanotechnologies, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, building power plant equipment, and manufacturing catalysts of oil industries with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB)’s member states and the other Islamic countries.
-- EIA Reports 2nd Biggest Rise in Iran’s Quarterly Oil Output
Iran has raised its daily crude oil production by 40,000 barrels during the first three months of 2023, ranking second among the OPEC members in terms of quarterly oil production growth, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said.
The ‘Short-Term Energy Outlook’, released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in May, has put the total oil production by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) member states in the first quarter of 2023 at 28.44 million barrels per day.

-- Iran promises to bolster Syrian army resistance axis against Israel
A senior Iranian general declared that the Islamic Republic will support Syria in its fight against the Israeli regime by bolstering the Syrian army.
The general, Mohammad Baqeri, who is the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, made the comments on Wednesday in Tehran in a meeting with the visiting Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces, General Abdul Karim Mahmoud Ibrahim.
Calling the Syrian army “the important anti-Zionist resistance axis” in the region, he noted that “we will reinforce this axis in cooperation with each other, and will stand up together to the Zionist regime’s bullying.”

Singer Hossein Zaman, a pioneer of pop music in post-revolution Iran, died on Thursday at 64 after months of battle against liver cancer. His family announced that he was admitted to the ICU on Wednesday due to his critical condition and passed away Thursday morning.
He was buried in the Artists Section of Tehran’s Behesht Zahra Cemetery on Friday. Zaman was among the earliest pop singers allowed to work in the post-revolution Iran.
-- Ancient Iranian relics on show at Matsuoka Museum
A selection of ancient Iranian relics – handcrafted between the 9th and the 13th centuries – have been put on show at the Matsuoka Museum of Art. The exhibit features 50 objects that are mainly porcelains and potteries, ISNA reported on Friday.
Dating from the 9th to the 13th centuries, the objects have been collected from the ancient Iranian cities of Kashan and Neyshabur, the report said. The event will be running through June 4 at the museum located in Shirokanedai, Minato, Tokyo, founded by Japanese developer Seijiro Matsuoka in November 1975.
