-- Iraq’s Kurdistan region to invest in Iran’s Kish Island
The Iraqi Kurdistan region has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with authorities in Iran’s southern island of Kish — a major tourist destination. The acting director of the Economic and Investment Department of the Kish Free Zone Organization (KFZO) said on Tuesday that the agreement to facilitate investment in the island was signed in the fields of trade, commerce, tourism, entertainment, and air and sea transportation, IRNA reported.
Speaking to reporters, Alireza Ebrahimpour said the MoU was inked on the sidelines of the Iran Expo 2023, adding that a direct air route will be launched between the Kurdistan Region and Kish Island.
-- Iran committed to producing 10 GW of nuclear electricity
The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said that the Islamic Republic is committed to expanding its nuclear electricity sector to reach the generation capacity of 10 gigawatts (GW).
Mohammad Eslami stated that Iran will make efforts to attract foreign investment into its nuclear electricity sector, adding that the budget law for the calendar year to March 2024 projects the construction of nuclear power plants with reliance on domestic and foreign investments.
-- Iran, Oman reach initial agreements to sign PTA
Top ministers from Iran and Oman have reached an initial agreement to sign a preferential trade agreement (PTA) between the two countries. Iran’s Minister of Finance Ehsan Khandouzi said that he had agreed to a proposal from Oman to sign a PTA between the two countries.
“We fully agree with this proposal and will support the issue in the Cabinet,” Khandouzi was quoted as saying by the news service of Iran’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance.

Tehran Hosts China Film Week
The 3rd edition of the China Film Week is currently underway at the Abbas Kiarostami Hall of the Farabi Cinema Foundation (FCF) in Tehran. Five movies by the new generation of Chinese filmmakers have been selected to be screened at the event.
The opening ceremony of the event was attended by Chang Hua, the Chinese ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Khazaei, the head of the Cinema Organization, and a number of Iranian filmmakers and Chinese film students. The film festival opened with a screening of ‘The Captain’ by Andrew Lau.
-- Abyar Joins Australian Festival Jury Board
Iranian director Narges Abyar has judged at the 7th edition of the Women Media Arts and Film Festival (WMAFF) in Australia. The jury also included Australian actress and writer Kate Fitzpatrick and the New Zealand-born Australian-based filmmaker Margot Nash.
The WMAFF is a new screen culture and audience development initiative by Cinewest in partnership with Sydney Olympic Park Authority. Three Iranian films, ‘Kal Fatemeh’ by Mehdi Zamanpour-Kiasari, ‘Lady of the City’ by Maryam Bahrololoumi, and ‘The Sun of that Moon’ by Setareh Eskandari, took part in different sections of the festival.
-- Soltani Wins Gold Medal in Asian Weightlifting Championships
Iranian Weightlifter Hssein Soltani grabbed a gold medal in Asian Weightlifting Championships on Tuesday. Soltani ranked 1st by lifting a total of 184 kg weight in the 81 kg category.
Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Sheng-Min won the silver with 154-180-334 and the bronze medal went to South Korean lifter Park Hyeongo with 143-181-324.

-- Raisi orders formation of special committee on unrest
President Ebrahim Raisi on Sunday ordered the formation of special committee to follow up on the wave of unrest that gripped Iran last year. The order came after receiving a report from the Minister of Interior on the unrest.
Following a report by the Minister of Interior on the performance of the task force to follow up on the riots, the President issued an order to form a committee to investigate the dimensions of the incidents and riots and seek technical and expert views of the relevant institutions and authorities, the official presidential website said.

Iran’s 14th International Conference on Coast, Ports and Marine Structures (ICOPMAS 2022) kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday, the portal of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) reported.
The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by senior officials including Iranian Transport and Urban Development Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash, Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Alireza Tangsiri, and PMO Head Ali-Akbar Safaei.
-- Iran sets up anthropology museum of Baluchi people in Mombasa
Iran’s embassy in Kenya has established an anthropology museum in Mombasa aimed to spotlight the cultural heritage and arts of Baluchi people who migrated eastern coasts of the Dark Continent centuries ago. The museum features arrays of vax figures, statues, figurines, handicrafts, textiles, photographs as well as objects donated to the locals of Baluchi origin, Mehr quoted Tehran’s ambassador to Nairobi as saying on Tuesday.
Covering 100 square meters in area, the museum showcases scenes of rich cultural heritage and historical monuments of Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province as well, Jafar Barmaki said.
