“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to cooperate with the Syrian Arab Republic in establishing factories and launching production lines of strategic defense equipment to boost the security of the Syrian people,” Ashtiani said in a meeting with his Syrian counterpart, Ali Mahmoud Abbas, in Damascus on Monday.
The defense minister, who had accompanied President Ebrahim Raisi during his landmark visit to Syria last week, sat down with Abbas for talks focusing on cooperation in the defense and military industries.
Ashtiani said Iran had achieved self-sufficiency in various defense domains, including ground, sea, air, space, and electronic warfare, despite the impact of Western sanctions.
He added that the Islamic Republic was now prepared to help Syria strengthen its defense capabilities, as the Iranian armed forces stood alongside the Syrian army in the full-fledged battle against foreign-backed militants in the country.
The Syrian defense minister, meanwhile, hailed Iran's support in the fight against terrorism and expressed his gratitude for Tehran's assistance in bringing stability and security back to the Arab country.
“Strengthening Syria's defense infrastructure will make this country more prepared to fight terrorism as one of the links in the axis of Resistance,” Abbas said.
