The figures published on Sunday said that Iran produced as much as 40,000 tons of paper over the year to March 21 while the country’s total paper production had reached 5,000 tons in the year before.
Iranian paper production is responsible for some 70% of the paper needed by the country’s Ministry of Education for printing textbooks while it responds to some 20% of the demand in the domestic publication sector, according to the data.
The data showed that all the paper needed by the Iranian Ministry of Education is projected to be met domestically this calendar year, adding that the domestic producers are also expected to meet 50% of the paper demand by Iranian publishers.
The Iranian culture ministry said Iran will become self-sufficient in paper production in the calendar year to March 2025.
