Reza Sadr al-Husseini told IRNA on Monday that measures have been taken in Iraq after Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani and President Abdul Latif Rashid came to power in October to secure the Arab country’s borders with the Islamic Republic, especially borders with Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.
He said that Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces who once only accepted orders from their regional commanders are now following orders from the Iraqi army and border guards, adding that as a result of the developments there have not been any reports of insecurity in the joint borders of Iran and Iraq over the past months.
Sadr al-Husseini said that Iraqi president's visit to Iran also allowed the two countries to discuss the issue of border rivers, especially with regard to water rights existing between Iran, Iraq and Turkiye.
