Afghans attend free demining courses at Iran's border

Mashhad, IRNA – Some 420,000 Afghans receive training in Iran’s northeastern border regions every year on how to deal with threats caused by mines, according to a local official in Taybad region in Razavi Khorasan province.

Hadi Ramezani, the head of the Red Crescent Society in Taybad told IRNA on Monday that some 1,200 Afghan nationals reecive training on mine threats each day before returning to their country from Iranian borders.

Ramezani said Afghanistan is a war-stricken country and has plenty of areas laden with mines.

He added that eight trainers from Iran's Red Crescent Society teach the Afghan nationals crossing the Dogharoun border how to safely mark and evade minefields and undetonated explosives.

The official went on to say that the training program covers those who return to Afghanistan voluntarily.

According to reports, more than one million Iranian and foreign nationals legally commute through the Doraghoun border crossing.

Dogharoun, is located 18 km from the city of Taybad and some 225 km to the southeast of the provincial capital of Mashhad.
