“Had the army commanders not been involved in the war on Yemen, this wouldn’t have happened in Sudan, especially since those fighting in Sudan now were involved in fighting in Yemen before,” Mohammad Al-Bukhaiti said in an interview with Al Mayadeen published on Tuesday.
Al-Bukhaiti regretted that the Sana’a government is not able to provide aid to the Yemenis in Sudan due to the Saudi-led blockade against the nation.
Fighting erupted between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on April 15 and has so far killed hundreds of people, knocked out hospitals and other services, and turned residential areas into war zones.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned on Monday that the violence between the warring parties could spiral into a “catastrophic conflagration", calling on the Security Council members to exert maximum leverage to help restore calm and order in the African country.
