Tehran, Islamabad on same path in defending human rights: Pakistan's minister

Islamabad, IRNA – Pakistan’s Minister of Human Rights Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada has hailed his country’s cooperation with Iran on human rights issues, saying that the two sides can further boost that cooperation in order to help improve the human rights situation in the region.

“Iran has always supported Pakistan in regional and international communities, and we are also proud of supporting the friendly and brotherly country of Iran. We believe that we can achieve our common goals with Iran only through bilateral cooperation,” the Pakistani minister told IRNA in Islamabad on Wednesday as he stressed the importance of Tehran-Islamabad cooperation on human rights issues in regional and international communities.

Close interaction in the Islamic world, especially among key regional players, helps increase efforts aimed at improving the human rights situation in Islamic countries, Pirzada said, while praising the human rights situation in those countries compared with other states.

“Today, the human rights situation in our countries and other Islamic states is fortunately much better than that in the countries which claim to be defending human rights.”

He also said that regional countries, including Iran and Pakistan, are able to advance human rights goals based on Islamic principles, free from foreign pressure and dictates.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Pakistani minister of human rights met with Iranian ambassador to the country, Mohammad Ali Hosseini, with the two discussing bilateral cooperation in different fields including economy.
