Speaking to IRNA on Tuesday, head of Sistan and Baluchestan Agriculture Jihad Organization Mohammad Reza Seyyed-Hosseini said that shrimp farming is one of the main potentials of Sistan and Baluchestan and can be hugely beneficial for the country through increased exports.
He added that the area used for shrimp farming in the province has reached 871 hectares, showing a year on year growth of 35%.
Head of Iran Fisheries Organization (IFSRI) Hossein Hosseini said in March that the country had set a target to produce some 160,000 mt of shrimps per year.
He noted that the target will be part of Iran's Seventh Five-year Development Plan to be launched in 2025.
IFSRI figures show that Iran farmed some 61,000 mt of shrimp in 950 aquaculture locations in the 11 months to late February this year.
