Anti-Iran sanctions ‘threatening’ Turkiye too: Turkish envoy

Tehran, IRNA – The newly-appointed ambassador of Turkiye to Tehran, Professor Hicabi Kirlangiç, has called anti-Iran sanctions unfair, saying that the measures are also “threatening” his country as they prevent higher trade exchanges between the two sides.

As the two neighboring countries, Iran and Turkiye should have a greater volume of trade transactions, but the current conditions are preventing that, the ambassador said in an interview with the Persian service of Turkiye’s Anadolu news agency.

The sanctions imposed on Iran have increased pressure and do not allow trade affairs to move forward easily, Kirlangiç said, according to the interview released on Tuesday.

He added the sanctions against Iran, which are not fair, should be removed so that Tehran and Ankara can have better economic ties.

The anti-Iran sanctions have been imposed by the Western states, particularly the US, mainly over the country’s nuclear energy program, targeting Iran’s economy.
