Amirabdollahian left Tehran for the city of Samarkand at the head of a political delegation.
He will join his counterparts from other neighboring countries of Afghanistan, namely China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will also attend the summit set to be held on Thursday.
This is the fourth such summit that discusses issues facing Afghanistan where the Taliban took power in August 2021 following the chaotic withdrawal of the US after more than two decades of war.
The top Iranian diplomat is also scheduled to meet his counterparts from Russia, China and Pakistan for their second quartet summit.
