Pakistan president: Iran-Saudi deal to resume ties beneficial for Islamic world

Islamabad, IRNA – Pakistan’s President Arif Alvi hailed a recent deal to restore diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and said that the agreement paves the way for the Islamic world to deal with its issues.

The resumption of formal relations between Tehran and Riyadh has been widely welcomed in the region and the world, and has turned into a model for dealing with the challenges facing Muslims, the Pakistani president said on Monday while addressing the 5th International Annual Message of Islam Conference in Islamabad.

Other speakers, including ambassadors of Islamic countries in Pakistan, also praised the agreement for protecting the interests of the Islamic world.

They stressed that Asian nations decide their future independently of the US and Europe.

Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume diplomatic relations on March 10, 2023 under a deal brokered by China.

Nearly a month later, the Iranian and Saudi foreign ministers met in the Chinese capital where they agreed to follow up on arrangements to reopen their diplomatic missions in their respective countries, among other things.
