-- Iran’s saffron export grows by 55% to $73m

Iran’s saffron export has experienced remarkable growth of $73 million, accounting for an overwhelming 55%, in the preceding Iranian calendar year which ended on March 20, 2023. The cultivation of saffron, colloquially known as “the red gold” in Iran, dates back to several millennia ago, with a staggering 120,000 hectares out of the 18 million hectares of arable land being utilized for the cultivation of this coveted commodity.

The largest contributor to the production of saffron is Khorasan Razavi Province in the northeast, boasting an impressive 82,000 hectares. Other notable provinces with significant production include North Khorasan, South Khorasan, Isfahan, Kerman, and Yazd.

-- Iranian automaker increase prices

The CEO of Saipa announced increases in the prices of domestic cars, according to which the popular models of Iran Khodro increased by 29% while Saipa products increased by an average of 17-18%.
According to Mohammad Ali Teymuri, the last price increase applied to Iran Khodro and Saipa products was in December 2021, we did not have any hike in prices last year, IRNA reported.

-- Iran’s ‘A Poetess’ awarded at US film festival

MEHR – Directed by Iranian filmmaker Saeed Dashti, the short film ‘A Poetess’ was awarded at the World Music & Independent Film Festival (WMIFF) in Washington D.C, the U.S. Amir Jafari, Sahra Fathi, Linda Kiani, and Nima Shabannejad are the cast of Dashti’s short film.
The film has already won the Best Foreign Film Award from the jury in the California Women’s Film Festival. ‘A Poetess’ depicts the life of Sara. Considering arguments and issues with her husband, Sara is hesitant to choose immigration or staying in her country. By realizing the truth about her husband, she makes up her mind and plans for a new future.

-- Electricity Exports Overtake Imports in Iran

Iran Power Grid Management Company data show that the energy balance of Iran’s power imports and exports turned positive in the previous Iranian year that ended on March 20, and consequently, the amount of electricity exports exceeded imports by 533 million kilowatts.
The company put the rate of Iran electricity exports in 1401 (March 21, 2022 to March 20, 2023) at 4.577 billion kilowatts.

-- Iranian Wrestlers Win 2 Gold Medals on 1st Day of Asian Championships

Iranian Greco-Wrestlers Pouya Dadmarz and Iman Muhammadi have won two first gold medals for Iran in the Asian championships after defeating their Indian and Uzbek opponents in the finals on Sunday.
Pooya Dadmarz won the first gold medal for the Iranian team with a 3-1 victory over his Indian opponent in the final of 55 weight category of the Greco-Roman wrestling contest of the event.

-- Basij to Parade Vessels in Solidarity With Palestinians

Voluntary sailors in Iran’s northern and southern ports and those in a number of ports across the world will attend maritime parades on April 13 to demonstrate solidarity with the people of Palestine, the IRGC Navy commander said Sunday.
Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri told reporters in Bushehr that the maritime parade is planned to express support for the oppressed people of Palestine and their intifada and to condemn the Zionist regime’s brutal and heinous crimes.
Local sailors along the southern and northern coasts of Iran will take part in the parades that will be held simultaneously in a number of ports across the world, the commander stated.

-- Greco-Roman wrestlers win gold medals in Asia

Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers claimed four gold medals in the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships on Sunday. Pouya Dadmarz, who had defeated Taiga Onishi (JPN) and Ikhtiyor Botirov (UZB), defeated Indian Rupin Sonipat 3-1 in the final match of the 55kg.

Iran’s Iman Mohammadi defeated Shermukhammad Sharibjanov from Uzbekistan 9-0 in the final bout of the 63kg. He had emerged victorious over Indian Neeraj Chhikara and South Korean Song Jin-seub.

-- IRGC develops new drone

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has test-launched a new suicide drone that can hit targets at a range of 450 kilometers. The new drone was developed by the IRGC Ground Force. 

General Ali Kouhestani, head of the Research and Self-Sufficiency Jihad Organization of the IRGC Ground Force, told Tasnim that the new unmanned aerial vehicle, dubbed “Me’raj-532”, has been tested successfully.

-- KANS invites Muslims to offer solutions for scientific challenges

The third edition of KANS (Knowledge Application and Notion for Society) scientific competition will be held this year, calling for scholars, researchers, and innovators from Islamic countries to show their technological achievements or solutions for challenges.

Scholars, researchers, innovators, university students, and professors under 45 years of age submitted their scientific and technological ideas and achievements in the form of a 5-minute video presentation to participate in KANS 2023.
