Iran has never intended to enter Iraqi Kurdistan: Diplomat

Tehran, IRNA- Iranian diplomat said despite some US-led terrorist acts against Tehran through the Iraqi Kurdistan region, the Islamic Republic has never thought about entering the region, and the news and accusations made about this issue are sheer lies.

Iranian ambassador to Iraq, Mohammed Kazem Al Sadeq made the remarks in an interview with Iraqi media.

Reacting to the efforts of some parties to accuse Iran of trying to "invade" the Iraqi Kurdistan region, he said that such news is not right and Iran has never thought about the invasion of the territory of the Iraqi Kurdistan.

Commenting on the Iranian attack on terrorist positions in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, the diplomat said that this is a guaranteed right to self-defense, but we hope to control armed groups with a recent understanding between the two countries and that no aggression will be repeated to our country.

Al Sadiq also announced his decision to travel to the Iraqi Kurdistan region, adding that: "We have historical relations with the Kurds and the Iraqi Kurdistan region.”

He also appreciated Iraq for hosting and managing five rounds of dialogue between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

On March 19, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani and Iraqi national security adviser Qassim al-Araji have inked the agreement on security cooperation.

Shamkhani and Al-Araji signed an agreement on security cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad in the presence of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani on Sunday.

The agreement will have a decisive impact on reducing and managing the unwanted security challenges between the two states, which are caused due to the mischief of anti-Islamic Establishment elements residing in Iraq's Kurdistan region.

Earlier, Shamkhani in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani stressed that Iran-Iraq strategic cooperation ensures regional security and progress.

Stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran is always ready to contribute to the development of security, stability, and progress in Iraq, Shamkhani noted that a united, integrated, and powerful Iraq is the main cause of stability in the region.

Any tensions and crises in the border regions shared between Iran and Iraq are disruptive to the security and tranquility of the people and a deterrent factor in the development of border cities, he said, adding that Iran and Iraq should eliminate any internal and external tensions in the neighboring regions.
