Broadening ties with neighbors, Iran's top foreign policy priority: Bagheri

Tehran, IRNA – Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani has said that broadening relations with neighboring countries is Iran's topmost priority in its foreign policy, and Armenia is Iran's important neighbor.

Armen Press reported Bagheri as saying in his press conference in Yerevan on Wednesday, "I am visiting Armenia on an invitation of my Armenian counterpart as a part of bilateral consultation with his country, and today I have very constructive consultations with my Armenian counterpart, as well as this country's minister of foreign affairs."

He said that in those talks Iran's strong stand on the establishment of a sustainable peace in the region was emphasized, adding, "We also in our meetings emphasized that Iran is always a trustworthy partner in comprehensive peace-making and promoting security in the region."

The deputy foreign minister said that the regional countries, themselves, are the guarantees for regional peace and stability, as the presence of foreign forces cannot ensure any peace and stability, because those forces always pursue other objectives.

In response to a question on Azerbaijan Republic's recent move to sieging Lachin and occupying the independent lands of Armenia, as well as making a falsified claim about "West Azerbaijan" and "South Azerbaijan", Bagheri said, "God has created the diplomats to contribute to the peaceful solution of dispute and establishing stability. Iran will use all its capacities to resolve this problem through peaceful dialogues."
