Kharrazi met and held talks with the Syrian President on Tuesday to discuss regional and international developments.
Bashar al-Assad thanked Iran's support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and foreign threats, as well as Tehran's aid to Damascus during the earthquake disaster, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
Referring to the current developments in the region, he said that countries in the region should bolster ties to build a defense system against hostile policies.
During the meeting, Kharrazi also extended condolences over the death of Syrian people during the recent deadly earthquake.
Pointing to the regional issues and latest development in the region, he said that countries in the region should have a clear vision of the future to secure their interests.
Kharrazi also met and held talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad during his visit to Damascus.
