-- Iran, Iraq agree to speed up construction of key rail line

Iran and Iraq agreed to speed up construction of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway and the restart of the Tehran-Karbala combined train, CEO of Iran’s railway company Miad Salehi said.
“During the joint commission of the two countries which was held yesterday and today in Baghdad, good understandings were made with the officials of the new Iraqi government in the field of rail link, especially the acceleration of the construction of the Shalamcheh-Basra railway as well as the announcement of the both sides’ readiness for a rail connection from the Khosravi border,” Salehi noted.

-- Iran’s energy exchange reports record sale of LPG shipments

Iran Energy Exchange (IRENEX) reported a yearly record sale for three shipment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) amid reports suggesting Iran’s hard currency revenues from LPG exports have increased significantly in recent months.
The IRENEX said in a statement that the sale earlier in the day of three LPG shipments weighing 192,000 tons for $124.6 million was the highest reported in the market since the start of the calendar year in late March 2022.

-- Khaneh-tekani: An ancient tradition for getting rid of impurities

A few more days left until the Iranian New Year, Nowruz, and there is certain excitement among the people who are preparing to welcome the spring.
Every year at this time, the streets of Iran are full of people who are busy buying new clothes and appliances.
Passing through some of the alleys, especially those located in villages and old parts of the cities, you will see carpets and rugs that have been washed and hung from balconies or roofs to dry.
Spring cleaning, referred to as khaneh-tekani in Persian, literally meaning shaking up the house, is an age-old tradition in Iran.
In the last days of winter, ancient Persians used to break the worn-out clay dishes, throw away old appliances, and replace them with new ones. It was a symbolic act to drive out evil spirits and remove debris, blackness, poverty and sadness from their homes as they prepared to welcome the spring.

--“Graveyard” wins award at Hong Kong festival

 “Graveyard” by Iranian director Ali Darai has won an award at the 28th IFVA Awards in Hong Kong. The short film was one of the three films honored in the Asian New Force Category.

The film tells the story of a young mother who has lost her baby due to negligence. Furthermore, since the presence of the father is required to obtain burial permission in Iran, the young mother is striving to find her missing husband and, with the passage of time, she becomes more involved in a plethora of serious issues.

-- Iranian universities in Webometrics world ranking 2023

The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities 2023 has ranked 457 Iranian institutions among around 32,000 top universities across the world. The University of Tehran tops the list of Iranian universities included in this ranking, followed by Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology, Amirkabir University of Technology, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Iran University of Science and Technology, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.

-- Yazd’s historical texture to turn into living museum during Noruz holidays

The historical texture of Yazd in central Iran is set to become a living museum during the Noruz holidays, which officially begins on March 21, the provincial tourism chief has said.

Visitors to the historical texture during the holidays will be exposed to the attractions, elites, and handicrafts of the city as part of a living museum, Ahmad Akhundi explained on Friday.

In July 2017, the historical structure of Yazd was named a UNESCO World Heritage. Wedged between the northern Dasht-e Kavir and the southern Dasht-e Lut on a flat plain, the oasis city enjoys a very harmonious public-religious architecture that dates from different eras.

--Envoy: Afghanistan-Iran Trade Ties to Expand

 Iranian Ambassador to Kabul Hassan Kazemi Qomi has declared that Kabul and Tehran are going to increase the volume of trade exchanges. Kazemi Qomi twitted on Thursday: In the trip by Afghanistan’s caretaker of Commerce and Industry Ministry Nooruddin Azizi to Iran, fruitful talks have been made between the two sides to increase trade exchanges between Afghanistan and Iran for more benefit of both nations.
The special envoy of the Iranian president for Afghanistan also wrote on his Twitter account: The inauguration of the Khaf-Herat railroad, trade activities in Chabahar Port, and removal of obstacles of transit operation at border crossings have been the main topics of negotiations during the visit.

-- Turkmenistan, Iran Resume Traffic at Bajgiran Border Crossing

 Head of the representative office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran in Khorasan Razavi Muhammad Beheshti hass said that the traffic of Iranian trucks to Turkmenistan has been resumed at the Bajgiran border crossing point of Ghuchan city in Razavi Khorasan Province after three years.
Beheshti said that the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan has announced that 10 trucks are allowed to enter the country from the Bajgiran border point in order to invigorate trade ties between the two states.
