He was speaking at a meeting dubbed “Modernization in Chinese Style, New Opportunities for Iran and China”. It was held in Tehran and co-organized by a Chinese media group and the Iran-China Friendship Association. Experts on China's affairs, as well as Chinese Ambassador to Tehran Chang Hua were in attendance.
The Iranian and Chinese nations have established their relations for several thousand years in different fields such as culture, trade and economy, therefore the further expansion of these relations is a serious necessity at the current time, Boroujerdi said.
He said that the two countries have been taking new steps in developing their ties since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, which shows the serious determination of the leaders of the two countries to promote mutual cooperation.
Boroujerdi, who is also a former Iranian ambassador to China, referred to the 25-year strategic cooperation agreement between the two sides, saying that the document is a key foundation for Tehran-Beijing cooperation in the long-term.
He spoke about China's foreign policy as well.
Boroujerdi said, despite the US that seeks to gain dominance in West Asia, China is after a constructive and peaceful presence, which is an approach welcomed by regional countries.
The respect that regional countries have for Chinese policies is one of the reasons for contributing to the recent decision by Iran and Saudi Arabia to resume diplomatic relations after seven years following efforts by Iraq and Oman, he noted.
The Chinese ambassador also addressed the meeting, saying that his country will develop its ties with Iran based on a “strategic view” and regardless of any change in the region and the world.
He stressed that a new chapter will begin in Iran-China cooperation through the leadership of the authorities of the two countries.
Chang Hua also referred to the recent deal brokered by China on the resumption of Iran-Saudi relations, saying that his country is seeking to play a positive role in global peace and development.
The Chinese envoy further explained that his country is opposed to geopolitical competition in the Middle East and does not intend to form any group against other nations.
China believes that the future of the Middle East should be decided by Mideastern countries, and will always support people in that region in their attempts to seek independence and development and will back resolving issues though dialog, Chang Hua said.
