VP says Iran determined to expand economic ties with Belarus

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber has said that the current Iranian administration led by President Ebrahim Raisi is determined to expand economic relations with Belarus, and that those relations should be promoted to the same high level of political ties between the two countries.

Mokhber made the comment on Monday during a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in the Iranian capital Tehran.

The Iranian official said that the North-South Corridor is among the capacities the two countries can use to expand their mutual cooperation, as developing the corridor requires working on rail, and sea, as well as air transport to advance passenger and freight transportation.

He said that industry, oil, insurance, and agriculture are other sectors which the two sides can use to expand cooperation and meet each other’s needs.

Mokhber also referred to Western sanctions against independent states, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran used the sanctions as an opportunity for progress through relying on domestic capabilities.

The Belarusian president hailed Iran’s development, including in the technology sector and said that products produced by Iranian firms can be offered at the global level.

He also called for the implementation of cooperation agreements between Tehran and Minsk as soon as possible.

Earlier on Monday, the Belarusian and Iranian presidents signed a cooperation roadmap document.

Lukashenko arrived in Tehran on Sunday for a two-day state visit.
