Iraj Roohi, who is director of ICT’s Universal Services Obligation Department, told IRNA on Saturday that internet penetration rate for Iran’s rural population had increased by 9% since the current administration came to office in August 2020.
Roohi said that the development of information technology in Iran’s rural areas is a priority for the ICT, adding that the country seeks to provide high-quality internet on a large scale for people living in the countryside
He said that some 900 villages across Iran had been connected to the internet for the first time in February this year.
The official added that the province of Qom, located to the southwest of the capital Tehran, is the only Iranian province with an internet penetration rate of 100%.
